How to Get Your First Order on Fiverr (Without Fake Reviews or Begging)

No fake reviews, no begging: a five-step system for a first Fiverr order — a narrow starter Gig, being findable, fast honest replies, custom offers, and promoting your Gig the way Fiverr itself recommends.

Every established Fiverr seller started with the same problem you have: a Gig with no orders, no reviews and no proof. The first order is the hardest because buyers use reviews to decide — and you do not have any yet. What you cannot do is shortcut it. Fiverr’s own Gig best practices are explicit: “Do not ask clients for positive reviews. The best way to earn a great review is to be responsive, professional, and helpful.” Fake reviews and review swaps violate Fiverr’s Community Standards and risk the account you are trying to build. The good news: the legitimate route is a system, not luck. Here it is, in the order it works.

Highlights

  • No shortcuts: never buy, swap or beg for reviews — Fiverr bans asking clients for positive reviews, and fake reviews breach its Community Standards.
  • Shrink the first offer: a narrow, clearly priced starter Gig is easier for a stranger to trust than a broad one.
  • Be findable first: title, keywords, tags and images decide whether anyone sees the Gig at all.
  • Answer fast and well: responsiveness is a tracked metric on Fiverr and part of your future seller level.
  • Bring your own traffic: Fiverr itself recommends promoting your Gig outside the platform — social posts, your own site, and genuine community participation.

Step 1: Make the first Gig easy to say yes to

A buyer choosing between you and a reviewed seller is taking a risk, so reduce what they have to risk. Offer one narrow, concrete service with a clear scope and a realistic delivery time — Fiverr’s own best practice is to set realistic delivery times, because under-promising and over-delivering is better for your reviews than the reverse. As a new freelancer you can have up to 4 active Gigs, so each one has to count: one strong, specific offer beats four vague ones. Your profile does the trust work your reviews cannot do yet — complete it fully, with a portfolio of real samples of the work you are selling. If you have not set the Gig up yet, our beginner’s guide to creating your first Gig walks through every step.

Step 2: Get found before you try to get chosen

An invisible Gig gets no first order, however good it is. Fiverr matches buyers to Gigs through the words attached to yours: the category (which cannot be changed after publishing), a title that completes “I will…” with a specific deliverable, up to five keywords that categorise the service, and up to five search tags — Fiverr’s advice is to use all five, because relevant, specific tags significantly improve discoverability. That whole system is broken down in our guide to Gig titles, keywords and tags. Then the gallery takes over: your image is the first thing a browsing buyer sees, and it has to represent your actual work — the sizes and rules are in our guide to Gig images that get clicks.

Step 3: Treat every message like it decides your level — it does

Before the first order, your inbox is your shop floor. Fiverr tracks response rate as one of the six metrics behind its seller levels, and its best-practice guidance for communication is to be polite, send informative updates and maintain a collaborative relationship — and never to spam members or contact them about anything unrelated to their Gigs or orders. Practically: reply quickly, answer the actual question, and when a conversation reveals a need your packages do not cover, send a custom offer — Fiverr’s tool for proposing a personalised service and price to a specific client. A well-aimed custom offer converts browsers who were never going to click a standard package. Fiverr also runs matching features that connect freelancers with relevant client requests; respond to matches with offers written for that brief, not a pasted template.

Step 4: Bring your own first visitors

Fiverr does not expect you to wait for its search alone. Its Help Center has a dedicated guide to promoting your Gigs outside of Fiverr, covering social media, a personal website or blog, communities and paid ads — with two conditions that matter: promote only a profile and Gig that are already polished, and always point your audience back to Fiverr, conducting all client conversations on the platform. Its community advice is equally clear: be genuinely helpful first, read each community’s rules before posting anything promotional, and earn the right to mention your services over time. Sharing your Gig link with people who already know your work — past employers, classmates, local businesses you have helped — is not begging; it is distribution. What crosses the line is asking those people to place fake orders or leave reviews for work you did not do.

Step 5: Over-deliver the first order, then protect the streak

When the order lands, treat it like the reference it is. Deliver what the Gig promised, on time or early, with a short note explaining what you have delivered and how to use it. Then do not ask for a positive review — Fiverr forbids it, and a buyer who had a genuinely good experience does not need to be asked twice to say so. What you are really building with orders one to five is the record Fiverr itself measures: satisfaction, communication and reliability, which feed your Success Score and, over time, your seller level. The first order is not the goal. It is the evidence that the system above works — and proof you can show the second buyer.

What never to do

  • Buy fake reviews or join review-exchange groups — a Community Standards violation that can end the account.
  • Ask friends or family to place orders they do not need, for reviews of work not done.
  • Spam Fiverr members or unrelated groups with your Gig link.
  • Ask a client for a positive review, or offer a discount in exchange for one.
  • Take the conversation or payment off Fiverr to “save the fee” — you lose the platform’s protection and break its off-platform policy.
